When you sign up for an NBN connection, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) must purchase a connection to your house from NBN Co. One of the costs associated with this connection is the Access Virtual Circuit (AVC) cost. The AVC cost is fixed every month and only varies in price depending on the peak speed of your connection (faster connection equals more expensive fixed cost).
Unfortunately this AVC charge gets expensive ($150) at the Gigabit speeds we’re looking to do as part of the Tasmania GigaState project. This price scale was set before these sort of speeds were envisaged on the NBN and we are looking to see if we can change that.
For more info on the AVC charge or to ask about the Tasmania GigaState project, email Launtel here.
